Frontier Sweep: eliminate all Klingon and Romulan hostiles; First Federation ships do not count toward this quota. Reconnaissance: approach each A within 1.5 sectors and use OPERATE twice. Rescue: approach ! and OPERATE three times, then dock to deliver the crew. Recon and rescue also require the kill quota shown in GOALS; a one-hostile setup never requires two kills.

Each primary survey or rescue stage costs 150 energy and 0.4 days; surviving enemies respond. Progress persists after retreat. You may clear the sector first or accept the risk. Merely entering a quadrant completes nothing.

Cadet: 12 hostiles, 6 bases, 90 days and weaker enemies. Captain: 18 hostiles, 5 bases, 90 days. Admiral: 22 hostiles, 4 bases, 100 days and stronger enemies; the larger assignment has a longer deadline. Custom settings can deliberately make a difficult mission. Reuse the same seed and settings for the same galaxy; identical actions reproduce combat rolls. Replay Same Seed restarts the original configuration.
